Ghanaian boxing legend Azumah Nelson in partnership with GCB Bank PLC, has successfully concluded his juvenile boxing and mentorship initiative, the Zoom Zoom Clinics. Launched in July this year, this program has captivated students aged 12-18 across Tamale, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra, providing them with invaluable lessons from Azumah’s illustrious boxing career, hosted by media and sports events consultant Yaw Sakyi Afari.

The first session was held on 12th July 2024 in Tamale at the Tamale Senior High School with other participants from Ghana Senior High School, Business Senior High School, Tamale Girls Senior High School, Northern School of Business SHS and the Bagabaga College of Education Model School.

This was followed by a session held in Takoradi on 26th July 2024 at the Fijai Senior High School. Other particiapting schools from the region included Ghana Secondary Technical School, Sekondi College, St. Mary’s Boys Senior High School, Kwekuma M.A Basic School and Kwesimintsim M.A JHS B

In Kumasi, the session was held at the Opoku Ware Senior High School on 2nd August 2024. Other participating schools from the region included Yaa Asantewaa Girls SHS, ⁠TI Amass SHS, Bantama SDA SHS, Agric Nzema Community SHS and ⁠Islamic SHS.

The final session of the Zoom Zoom Clinics took place on August 9th 2024 at the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School in Accra with participation from students of Accra Girls Senior High School, West African Senior High School, Kwabenya Senior High School, Labone Senior High School and the Prebyterian Boys Secondary School.

In an interview-style session with Yaw Sakyi Afari, Azumah Nelson shared personal anecdotes and emphasized the importance of seven key principles he believes were vital to his success: time management, honesty and respect, good preparation and discipline, avoiding drugs, hard work and determination, perseverance, and faith in God.

“Life is just like boxing,” he told the students. “You will face a lot of knocks and setbacks, but you have to be disciplined, keep trusting in God, and work towards your goals.”

The events held across the country have also included an interactive quiz based on Nelson’s principles, with cash prizes awarded to the top performers.

In his address to the students at the last edition held in Accra, Mr. Sam Aidoo, Executive Director Wholesale and Investment Banking at GCB Bank, emphasized the Bank's commitment to youth development. “At GCB Bank, we are very interested in the youth, which is why we invest our time and efforts into youth-building initiatives,” he stated.

The closing event was also attended by Mr. Eric Coffie, Chief Digital & Marketing Officer, and Mr. Frank Otinkorang, Financial Controller, both of GCB Bank. At every location throughout the program, our dedicated bank staff were on hand to run engaging sales activations.

The Zoom Zoom Clinics have not only highlighted Azumah Nelson's dedication to nurturing the next generation but have also reinforced GCB Bank’s role in supporting youth development across Ghana.
