As part of its efforts to motivate teachers to remain committed to the educational sector, the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, August 23rd 2023 officially launched the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize at the NAGRAT Lyceum in Accra.
The launch was under the theme ‘'Teachers at the heart of Quality Education’'.
This year’s edition is the 28th since its establishment in 1995 and the 6th since its rebranding from Best Teacher Award to Ghana Teacher Prize in 2018 to conform to global standards.
Dignitaries from academia and corporate organizations graced the ceremony where the top 30 finalists for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize were announced.
The Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum was the Guest of Honour for the launch. In his speech, he spoke about government initiatives geared towards making sure most Ghanaians have access to education that is relevant to the socioeconomic needs of the country. He thanked all in attendance and encouraged all teachers to continue to do their best for the students in their care.
GCB Bank’s Accra Zonal Manager, Mr. Fred Bissue represented Management at the launch and presented a cheque as the Bank's contribution to the Teachers’ Prize. In his short remarks, he expressed the Bank’s appreciation for teachers and emphasized the role of teachers in the socioeconomic development of the country.
The Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education, Mrs. Gifty Twum Ampofo also graced the occasion and Mrs. Catherine Appiah Pinkrah, Director General Admin of the Ministry of Education chaired the event.
Also in attendance were the Heads of agencies under the Ministry of Education, Mr. Angel Carbonu, President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, Dr. Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
