On the 5th of June this year, The National Science and Maths Quiz was launched it has since birthed a mixed dose of excitement and sorrow in the hearts of many. The next level of the competition is the quarter final, which commences on Thursday 28th of June, 2018.

This year’s quarter final stage proves to be even more exciting as tension builds up with the qualifying schools and the introduction of the Money Zone, an innovation sponsored by GCB Bank.

The methodology of The Money Zone is to convert a school’s final score to cash which will be provided by GCB. The format for The Money Zone is as follows:

  • At the Quarter-final stage, final  scores for each school would be multiplied by GHS 5
  • At the Semi-final stage, final  scores for each school would be multiplied by GHS 10
  • At the Grand Finale, final scores for each school would be multiplied by GHS 15

This amount would be given to each of the three contestants and their teachers. Thus, all 27 schools which would compete from the Quarter-final stage to the grand Finale would benefit from the GCB Money Zone. This has already made the competition keener and electrifying than ever before as competing schools and their alumni are eager and on the lookout for this stage of the competition.

Some have classified this stage as the clash of the titans as schools like Presec Legon, Wesley Girls’, St. Peters, St. Thomas Aquinas and the defending champions Prempeh College have all qualified to the next stage.

This stage will also see some debutant schools which others may otherwise classify as less endowed schools proving their mettle to clinch the ultimate prize.

GCB Bank has over the years been a part of the National Science and Maths Quiz but this year’s sponsorship proves to be the most exciting. We look forward to an unfulfilling competition and may the best school win.
