The Ladies Association of GCB Bank Ltd. has presented a cheque for GHS10,000.00 to the Breast Cancer Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Presenting the cheque to the Head of the Unit, Professor Joe Clegg-Lamptey, the Vice-President of the Association, Mrs. Memuna Sangber-Dery said the ladies identify with the global effort to mitigate the pain and suffering caused to families and homes due to breast cancer.”
It is the hope of the Association that the donation will further advance the efforts of the Unit in its fight against the disease.
Prof. Clegg-Lamptey expressed his profound gratitude to GCB and the Ladies Association for empathizing with the plight of women living with and battling breast cancer.
He expressed the hope that the Association will continue to partner the Unit to reduce the incidence of Breast Cancer in Ghana.
Touching on mammography, Professor Clegg-Lamptey described this as the best screening tool for the early detection of cancer. “Having a mammogram can provide one with the peace of mind in knowing that you do not have breast cancer”, he added.
He said women who are diagnosed late when the cancer has already spread to other parts of the body may live a while longer if the breast tumor is surgically removed.
Prof. Clegg-Lamptey however advised women to seek early treatment when breast cancer is diagnosed.
Other Executive members of the Association present at the function are Ms. Vida Atta-Peters, Assistant Secretary, Ms. Victoria Appiah, Treasurer, Ms. Mercy Owusu, Trustee and Ewuraba Sackey of the Bank’s Clinic.
