The Managing Director of GCB Bank Limited, Mr Ernest Mawuli praised the role and contributions of women in the financial services sector of the country.

Mr Agbesi lauded the expertise and professionalism of women especially those in the GCB Bank Limited, adding that “we have taken advantage of the expertise and professionalism of our ladies.”

 In a statement during a forum organised by the Bank at the GCB Head Office to mark  International Women’s Day in Accra, Mr Agbesi said women are agents of change who have a voice in influencing society.

“I cannot imagine banking without women and I am proud that in GCB we have women in responsible positions on Executive Management and as Heads of Department, Units and branches impacting on our business,” he stressed.

Mr Agbesi called on ladies of the Bank to help forge a better working environment for GCB.

 

“Let us unite, work together to improve the fortunes of the Bank and take advantage of the prevailing opportunities to aspire to higher laurels.”

He said, “as Ghana’s largest Bank, we pride ourselves in being a blue chip company that continues to engage the services of intelligent, talented and hard working women to provide banking services across the length and breadth of the countr,” adding “in the process our ladies have contributed to the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of Ghana.”

The Head of the Legal Services Department of the Bank, Mrs Jessie Jacintho, delivered a paper on career advancement.

 

Mrs Jacintho encouraged career women to widen their search for advancement beyond their current employment by considering lateral movement in the organisation as a strategy to move up the career ladder.

She mentioned being proactive, good communications skills and networking as qualities that would catapult the woman up the career ladder.

She urged women in management positions to give opportunities to young ladies to be innovative.

Mrs Jacintho threw a challenge to young women and ladies in general to build and promote their brands to enhance their career opportunities.

The Head of Consumer Banking Department of the Bank, Mrs Doris Wunu, who chaired the function, called for the development of a social and professional network of women.
