GCB Bank Limited has launched its mobile banking service that allows customers and non-customers to perform financial transactions from their phones.

Under this, customers of GCB and non-customers will be able to buy airtime, pay bills to merchants, transfer funds from GCB accounts, pay fees and transfer money using mobile services irrespective of the mobile network and without internet connection.

The GCB Mobile Banking Solution links the traditional Bank account to Mobile Money.

Already 11,000 customers and non-customers have registered and experienced the service.

The launch of the service was witnessed by over 250 corporate and individual customers, financial and business analysts.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Samuel Sarpong, Chief Operating Officer of the Bank, announced that GCB would soon rollout the App version of the mobile banking platform.

He urged corporate institutions to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new GCB service to expand customer base and to enhance cash management.

Using the unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) platform users of the services could use any type of phone.

“Even the popular ‘yam’ and ‘timber’ phones can deliver the service. GCB has indeed brought banking services to the remotest places in Ghana so far as there is mobile connectivity,” Mr. Sarpong said.

The COO said, “For business customers who receive payments from the general public, you can now receive payments from not just bank accounts but also from the mobile money wallets of customers straight into your account”.

He said the service is significant for Ghana because as the biggest and the leading financial institution in the country taking such a giant step immensely impacts on the nation.

The Head of Consumer Banking Department of the Bank, Mrs Doris Wunu, said users may dial or call *422# (all networks) using a registered phone number for SMS banking to set up and enjoy the new service.

She said the service has strong user authentication, secure banking access and easy to use.
