Residents of Sekondi/Takoradi thronged to the premises of the Christ the King Catholic Church at Effiakuma in Takoradi to participate in a GCB Bank sponsored eye care project.
The residents were taken through basic eye tests, provision of spectacles and drugs at free of charge.

The Bank in partnership with Third Eye Care and Vision Centre, hosted a large number of people from Effiakuma as well as its satellite communities (Efia, Effiakuma Number 9, and New site).
Free medication and eye glasses were provided to those with minor eye conditions while those with serious defects were referred to respective specialist clinics of Takoradi.

Seven ophthalmologists and 10 physician assistants and 20 volunteers of the Bank helped in the exercise. The project forms part of GCB’s corporate social responsibility and the Bank’s core business value of being a people focused Bank.

Some staff of the Bank joined the staff of the Centre in educating the residents, assembly members and community leaders on eye diseases and care, and the need for healthy savings and investing for their future.
Some community folks used the opportunity to open accounts with the Bank while others commended GCB for funding the eye screening.

The Western and Central Regional Manager of GCB Bank Limited, Mr Martin Yaw Abofra, said the Bank is a peoples Bank hence the decision to sponsor health related activity that would benefit the people.

He said the Board and Management of the Bank have made issues of human interest central to its business.
He thanked the people for massively participating in the programme.
GCB Bank last year funded similar exercises at Nima and Maamobi in Accra under which hundreds of people examined and treated their varied eye defects.
