The pain of hundreds of people during the recent flood-related disaster in the Accra Metropolis was assuaged when the Management and staff of GCB Bank Limited presented assorted relief items to them at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The victims expressed delight at the gesture of the Bank especially upon seeing the Management-led team and the Managing Director, Mr Simon Dornoo, personally donating the items to them.
As early as 8 am on Friday, June 12, 2015, households around the Odawnaa, the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and surrounding communities besieged the GCB Tower where the distribution took place, to receive mattresses, solar lamps, buckets, bowls, food, water and toiletries.
Landlords and landladies, tenants and individuals including the aged and nursing mothers were among the beneficiaries.
The Bank spent a total amount of GH¢300,000.00 in support of victims of the June 3, 2015 disaster.
Earlierin the week the Bank purchased medical items and drugs for the four main hospitals in Accra to cater for the needs of the victims.
The targeted hospitals are the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Police Hospital and 37 Military Hospital where the surviving victims have been admitted. Each of the hospitals will receive medical supplies and drugs worth GH¢50,000.00. This brings the cost of medical supplies to GH¢200,000.00.
The 37 Military Hospital is the first of the selected hospitals to receive the supply of the items at the GCB Head Office.
Simon Dornoo, disclosed that the Bank has installed three polythene tanks for the community and drinking water will be supplied over a five-day period.
The MD accompanied by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Samuel Sarpong, the Chief Information Officer and the Head of Human Resource Department visited the homes of some of the victims to empathise them.
