GCB Bank Limited has earmarked a total amount of GH¢300,000.00 in support of victims of June 3, 2015 flood victims in Accra.
To ensure that victims of the disaster directly benefit from its gesture, the Bank has purchased medical items and drugs for the four main hospitals in Accra to cater for the needs of the victims.
The hospitals are the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Police Hospital and 37 Military Hospital where the surviving victims have been admitted. Each of the hospitals will receive medical supplies and drugs worth GH¢50,000.00. This brings the cost of medical supply to GH¢200,000.00.
The 37 Military Hospital is the first of the selected hospitals to receive the supply of the items at the GCB Head Office in Accra on Wednesday.
The Managing Director of GCB Bank Limited, Mr Simon Dornoo, presented the GH¢50,000 worth of medical supplies to a team of the 37 Military Hospital led by the Acting Commanding Officer, Colonel Yeboah Agyapong.
Mr Dornoo announced that the other medical facilities selected would receive their medical supplies by Friday.
Additionally, GCB will be spending GH¢100,000.00 to purchase bags of rice, water, solar lamps, mattresses, buckets and bowls and toiletries for the victims.
Volunteers from the Bank will co-ordinate their efforts with the National Disaster Management Organisations and the representatives of the victims in the locality to ensure that the victims benefit directly from GCB’s support.
The Acting Commanding Officer, of the 37 Military Hospital, Colonel Yeboah Agyapong, expressed appreciation to the Management of the Bank for providing the support.
He urged other corporate institutions to emulate the example of GCB.
There have been appeals and responses from government and non- governmental organisations for relief for victims of this unfortunate incident which according to estimates have claimed the lives of about one hundred and fifty (150) people.
