Flag Hoisting

As part of activities to unveil the new brand of the Bank, management and staff of GCB Bank Limited on Monday September 15, hoisted the new corporate flag.

The solemn ceremony moderated by the personnel of Ghana Police Service was replicated at the 157 branches of the Bank across the length and breadth of Ghana.

The new corporate flag has a grey background, soaring golden eagle (GCB Amber) as the logo and emboldened GCB white colors and the national flag alongside.

The ceremony which was in Accra at the Head Office was attended by Managing Director, Mr Simon Dornoo, the Chief Transformation Officer, Mr Samuel Sarpong, and other top Management staff, Head Office staff and staff of the High Street branch of the Bank signified the emotional detachment from the symbolism and values of the old GCB and heralding of a new dawn of rebranding with a new corporate logo and poised to become a financial giant in Ghana, Africa and beyond.

GCB was established in 1953, with 27 employees, as the Bank of the Gold Coast with initial focus on serving Ghanaian traders, farmers, and business people, who could not obtain financial assistance from the expatriate banks. In 1957, when Ghana attained Independence, the Bank rebranded to Ghana Commercial Bank, to shift its operational focus on commercial banking, since Bank of Ghana had been established to function as the Central bank and banking regulator.

Initially, the Bank was wholly owned by the Government of Ghana. However, in 1996, the ownership in the Bank was restructured to reflect private sector participation. Today, government shareholding stands at 51.17% with the Bank listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

GCB serves the banking needs of a large number of corporations, parastatals, small and medium enterprises as well as individuals. Â
