Ghanaian families are one step closer to accessing world‑class paediatric care, as construction of GCB Bank’s fully funded paediatric facility, a GHS 32 million investment, at the University of Ghana Hospital stays firmly on track for commissioning in September 2026.

During a recent project review visit, Managing Director, Farihan Alhassan and members of GCB’s leadership team joined officials from the University of Ghana to inspect progress and discuss final timelines. The team confirmed that construction is advancing steadily, with preparations underway for the installation of critical medical equipment.

Farihan described the project as a long-term investment in the future of Ghanaian children:
“This facility will give more families access to the specialised care their children deserve. It’s one of the most meaningful commitments we’ve made to strengthen healthcare in Ghana, and we’re proud to see it taking shape.”

It will house a six-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), an eight‑bed High Dependency Unit, an eight‑bed infant unit, and a twelve‑bed ward for toddlers and older children. The facility will also include two isolation beds, two private rooms equipped with neonatal support systems, a twelve‑bed emergency ward, and a dedicated two‑bed kangaroo mothers’ ward.

In addition to clinical spaces, the centre will feature an Outpatient Department with four consulting rooms, a pharmacy, a modern laboratory, a dedicated play area for children, a conference room for training and education, and two administrative offices supporting day‑to‑day operations.

Together, these features will help address critical gaps in child healthcare and reduce pressure on existing facilities by providing more intensive care, specialised treatment, and family-centred services.

Construction began in January 2025, and the project continues to progress on schedule. Beyond the facility itself, GCB Bank and the University also discussed wider collaboration opportunities, including student initiatives, capacity-building programmes and future infrastructure projects.

This investment reflects GCB Bank’s long-term commitment to strengthening essential services, supporting national development, and improving the wellbeing of communities across Ghana.
