GCB Bank pays courtesy call on UNDP 2026

The Managing Director of GCB Bank PLC (GCB), Mr. Farihan Alhassan, led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ghana, to explore potential areas of strategic partnership between the two institutions.

The visit was aimed at strengthening existing engagements and identifying opportunities for collaboration in areas aligned with national development priorities and sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Alhassan described the engagement as timely and important, noting that GCB Bank was keen on taking bold steps to build partnerships that deliver shared value. He added that as Ghana’s largest indigenous bank, GCB remains focused on improving the lives of Ghanaians across all segments of the economy, including micro and small enterprises, SMEs, commercial and corporate businesses.

Providing background to the engagement, Ms. Winnifred Nkansah, Manager for Partnerships at GCB Bank PLC, noted that the relationship between UNDP and GCB Bank began about two years ago, with both institutions exploring areas of collaboration. She stated that the Managing Director’s visit underscored the importance the Bank attaches to such partnerships.

The Resident Representative of UNDP Ghana, Mr. Niloy Banerjee, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the value of GCB Bank’s financial expertise, explaining that UNDP was gradually transitioning from a traditional funding approach to a revolving financing model for its programmes.

In her remarks, Ms. Shaima Hussein, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Ghana, indicated that GCB Bank’s involvement would support growth in key sectors such as energy efficiency, agriculture and sustainability. She further noted that UNDP intends to use the partnership with GCB Bank as a reference case for similar collaborations in other countries.

The meeting reaffirmed both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing sustainable development through strategic partnerships that deliver meaningful impact across Ghana.
